Plain English summary
- Gauge has no servers. Your data never leaves your browser.

- Token counts are measured locally with a bundled tokenizer — no external API calls.

- All data stored in chrome.storage on your device only.
- Only external call: Polar.sh license validation for Pro users (key only, no user data).
1. Who we are
Gauge is a Chrome browser extension developed by AI2Flows at gauge.ai2flows.com. Contact: [email protected].
2. What data Gauge reads
Gauge is a Claude-only meter. It reads the following data exclusively from claude.ai:
- Claude usage data — Gauge intercepts the API call claude.ai already makes to read your usage %, message counts, reset timestamp, plan type, and model. This is the same data Claude's own settings page shows. No other platform's usage is read or tracked.
- Active Claude model — e.g. claude-opus-4-5 — to calculate burn rates, messages remaining, and plan-aware predictions.
- Composer text (token count only) — your message draft is measured locally by a bundled o200k tokenizer to show a live token count as you type. The text itself is never stored or transmitted.
- Conversation structure (local token breakdown only) — Gauge counts tokens in your visible conversation locally (files attached, history, system prompt) to show the context-window breakdown. Content is never sent anywhere.
- Conversation content (handoff only, clipboard only) — when you trigger a cross-platform handoff, Gauge reads the visible conversation to copy it to your clipboard. It goes clipboard → destination AI. It never touches a Gauge server.
ChatGPT, Gemini, and Grok: Gauge does not read, track, or estimate usage on any platform other than Claude. Those platforms are handoff destinations only — Gauge opens them in a new tab with your conversation context and nothing else.
3. How data is stored
- chrome.storage.local — Claude usage data, history (30 days Pro / 7 days Free), settings, token counts, time-of-day profile. Stays on your device. Not transmitted anywhere.
- chrome.storage.sync — your Pro license key only. Synced by Chrome across your signed-in devices — handled by Chrome, not Gauge.
Gauge has no backend, no database, and no servers of any kind.
4. External services
- Polar.sh license validation (Pro users only) — when you enter a Pro key, Gauge sends that key + our organisation ID to
api.polar.sh/v1/customer-portal/license-keys/validate over HTTPS. No user data, no conversation content, nothing else is included.
Gauge uses no analytics, no advertising networks, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
5. Permissions we request and why
- storage — save Claude usage data, settings, and history locally.
- alarms — refresh Claude usage data every 2 minutes while on claude.ai.
- scripting — inject the usage strip, popup, and context bar into claude.ai.
- tabs — detect when you're on claude.ai so Gauge knows when to activate.
- notifications — browser push when approaching your Claude limit (Pro only, requires your permission).
- clipboardWrite — copy your conversation to clipboard during cross-platform handoff.
- host_permissions for claude.ai — read Claude usage data and inject the meter UI. This is the only platform Gauge reads data from.
- host_permissions for chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, grok.com, x.com/i/grok — open new tabs at these destinations for handoff only. Gauge does not read any data from these domains.
6. Data we never collect
- Content of your Claude conversations (except transiently in memory during handoff)
- Any data whatsoever from ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok
- Your name, email, or any personally identifiable information
- Browsing history on any website
- Payment information (handled by Polar.sh)
- Device identifiers, fingerprinting data, or location
7. Data sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with any third parties. Gauge has no backend — there is no mechanism to share user data. The only data leaving your device is your license key (Pro only) sent to Polar.sh to confirm your purchase.
8. Data retention and deletion
- Usage history auto-rotates — 30 days (Pro) or 7 days (Free) maximum.
- Delete all Gauge data:
chrome://extensions → Gauge → Details → Clear data.
- Uninstalling removes all locally stored data immediately.
9. Children's privacy
Gauge is not directed at children under 13. Contact [email protected] if you believe a child has used Gauge.
10. Changes to this policy
Material changes will be noted in the extension's release notes and reflected in the effective date above.
